Hot Flashes...sexy shorts

New Release Today!

This collection of short, sexy flash fiction is even on sale at 20% off!

I have four stories in this anthology.

The Captain's Cabin

While the captain and first mate negotiate a shipment, Mick cleans the captain's cabin then strips down to wait, avoiding the threat of watching instead of participating in their sexual play.
EXCERPT
Mick opened the portholes to let some air into the hot and muggy captain's cabin. The rest of the crew was ashore in the mangy harbor town drinking and fucking, so it was safe enough no matter how rowdy things got when Robbie and the Captain returned. The fresh sea air tempted him to linger, but he had a deadline to meet.
His lovers had rowed ashore with the crew to negotiate a shipment of rum for their next port call at Charleston in the colonies. He'd wanted to go too, to find his land legs, but Devlin had taken one look at the state of his cabin and assured Mick that if he wanted to sit he'd attend to his chores. The threat of a whipping hadn't caused Mick's frenzied cleaning though. No. It was Robbie's thoughtfully tacked on suggestion that perhaps Mick would be better punished by being made to watch the evening's activities from the captain's straight-back chair instead of occupying his accustomed position between the two men.
He'd rushed to get the place ship-shape before they returned. The whitewashed cabin was neat as a pin, whatever the fuck that meant. It was something he'd picked up from Robbie. His lordship, the first mate. Mick shivered. Robbie was...if he'd had to choose between the Captain with his broad shoulders and piercing blue eyes, and Robbie's slender elegance, he'd have been hard pressed to decide. His captain could be rough, abrupt and harsh, but Robbie's punishments were always the more devastating.

Spin the Bottle
Corey takes his seat in the circle, ready for his chance to spin the bottle, but Tarek's shocking revelation brings his dreams crashing down.
EXCERPT
Laughter and squeals greeted Corey as he descended the narrow stairwell into Amir's basement. He followed the sounds down the dark hallway into the game room. A large punch bowl on a side table held everyone's keys. Corey clenched his fist around the key to his own Mustang. Not this time. He shoved the keys in his pocket. Hopefully when it came time to split up, they'd be too drunk to notice him leaving alone.
Several people lounged in the dark corners, mostly established couples who had no interest in Amir's games. Others sat in a circle on the carpeted floor.
His gaze was drawn instantly to the handsome Amir, seated cross legged in the circle, his hand poised over the empty beer bottle.
"Spin, spin, spin." The guests chanted, giggling and eyeing each other speculatively.
This would be his night. Their night. He stepped forward to fill an empty space in the circle. A hard hand closed on his forearm. "Why the fuck do you let him do this to you every week?"
Corey shook off the grip. His skin burned where Tarek, Amir's older brother, had touched him. His glance was drawn again to Amir, who watched them intently. "Do what?"
"He's never going to give you what you want."
"Come play, Corey. This might be your lucky night." Amir laughed, pointing to the spot Corey had been heading for.

His Lordship's Journal
In a time where society dictates that to be together is to court death,  an aristocrat cannot resist finding every excuse to be near his estate manager.
EXCERPT

You sit across the room at the small mahogany desk, stooped over a heavy ledger chewing the tip of a pen in concentration. Your brow furrows just a bit, adding up the columns to double check.  It's a waste of your time, because I just reviewed the quarterly accounts, and I know exactly where the error in figuring occurred. The chandler has overcharged for the beeswax candles used at last night's ball. It's a mere few pounds difference, and not worth fussing over, but it keeps you inside.
You appear a little out of place in the study my long suffering mother decorated for me. She doesn't understand why you can't just use the estate manager's office like your father did. I'm not entirely sure you understand my reasoning either. My father, the late Earl, met with his estate manager once a week for an accounting. I can't go that long without seeing you.
I know you'd rather be out there, riding the lands, checking the fields and talking with my people. You're very much a hands-on manager, but I want you here, where I can peek under my lashes at you and remember.
Your face looks almost exactly like that when you concentrate on pleasure...perhaps a little more flushed, more intense. The calculations have your eyes narrowed in frustration. You think I'm being too demanding.
In other settings you love that demand...

Tarek's Rule
Would it be foolish or unkind for Tarek to take advantage of Corey's disappointment with Amir's duplicity to press his own suit?
EXCERPT
Tarek leaned in close to Corey. Admittedly, he thought the young man might run back to Amir.  He curled a hand around Corey's tense neck, massaging gently before guiding his chin up to kiss his lips lightly.  Pulling back from their first kiss in the basement had tested his willpower. He'd wanted so much more.
Corey gasped. "How did you know he was cheating?"
Tarek traced the tip of his tongue over Corey's full lower lip, trying to steal another taste of temptation. "I taught him how...the floor's uneven. It's all physics."
"I thought someday he'd realize..."
"He loves you, Corey. But not like I do." He glided his tongue along the narrow top lip, nibbling gently with his teeth at the plump bottom one.
"I think—"
Encouraged, Tarek tugged Corey closer until he could feel the man's cock stirring. He ground against Corey, loving the tiny whimper that elicited. "You think too much. Just feel." He was pushing Corey hard, he knew that, taking advantage, but damn it, he'd waited years.
"Fuck that." Corey's light growl made Tarek chuckle again. "Kiss me like you mean it."
"Like this?" He brought their mouths together again, no teasing this time, just taking.  His tongue plunged deep, seeking and finding places that made Corey groan and whimper.  His hands dropped down, tracing their way back up under Corey's T-shirt, finding bare skin.

Crawl in Bed With Kellie Kamryn

Crawling Into Bed With Kellie Kamryn

And a Good Book

Important things first, are these sheets silk or cotton? well, once again it's flannel because it's winter here in Canada.

What are you wearing? nothing. The sheets and down duvet keep me sufficiently warm.

What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight? some sweet wine and strawberries

If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find? I don't have a night stand, silly, but if you open that dresser drawer you might find some...treasures ;)

Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night? I roll up like a burrito in the covers, unless I'm cuddling with someone, then I wrap myself around them...teehee

Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up? Absolutely! As long as you don't mind my cold feet warming up between your legs? No? oh, then I'll use your calves then.

What are we reading? CHOCOLATE, SEX AND OTHER TASTY TREATS FOR THE SOUL.

Marnie Harder wants what her sisters have found - love. One sister found it on-line, so why couldn't she? Bi-sexual female seeking committed menage. Rather than to view internet porn, she's determined to use her computer time more wisely, and decides to find a website catering to her sexual orientation where she can place an ad.

Before she gets that far, she discovers her new neighbors, Madison Williams and Drake Ellison, are as attracted to her as she is to them. The night Madison knocks on her door to "borrow" something, turns into a lust-filled evening with the two that Marnie won't soon forget. Leave it to her family and a meddling monkey to spoil the morning after.
But in the wake of candy wrappers, wild passion, and broken furniture, will Marnie find what she's been looking for?

Chocolate, Sex and Love - nothing better for your soul.

EXCERPT:
“Guess we should open the door,” Marnie said. When Madison made no move to cover up or get dressed, she asked, “Aren’t you going to put your clothes on?”
Madison put her hands on hips. “Why? It’s not like he hasn’t seen the goods before. Besides, he knew I was coming over here.”
“He did?” Marnie raised a questioning eyebrow.
“Yeah. He knew I was interested in you.” She squished Marnie’s cheeks together before planting a firm kiss to her lips. “He wants me to be happy, and he knows women make me happy too. Now open the door.”
Madison stifled a chuckle when Marnie closed her robe and tied the sash. Why bother? she thought but didn’t say. She hoped the three of them would be rolling around on a mattress by the end of an hour, if not sooner.
Blushing to the deepest shade of red ever known to mankind, Marnie opened the door. Where had her confident woman gone—the same babe who demanded she lie on the table like a banquet?
“Hi.” Marnie greeted Drake, one hand holding the top of her robe closed.
“Hey,” Drake said, popping a handful of candy into his mouth. He gave Marnie the once over then peered over her shoulder, one eyebrow quirking up when he caught sight of Madison’s naked form. “Well, well, well,” he snickered. “Been busy, haven’t we?”
“Trying to,” Madison retorted. “What are you doing here?”
Marnie gestured for him to enter, so he did. “I was trying to give you alone time with your wannabe honey, but I got restless. Thought I’d take myself for a walk when I heard a crash. Sounded like it came from in here. Everything okay?”
“I owe Marnie a table,” Madison admitted.
“It’s no big deal,” Marnie assured them. “If I hadn’t asked her to get on top of it, it might still be standing.”
Drake closed the door behind him before poking his head through the kitchen doorway. “Leave it to you, love muffin,” he chuckled. He turned to Marnie. “She is quite the meal, isn’t she?”
Madison loved how Marnie flushed an even deeper shade of red. She put an arm around her. “Why are you so shy all of a sudden?”
“I’m not,” Marnie insisted with a toss of her chestnut hair.
“You’re redder than a lobster fresh out of the pot,” she teased, pressing a kiss to the side of her temple.
Drake draped an arm around Madison’s shoulder and placed a firm kiss to her lips. “Mmm…” He swiped his tongue over her lips. “Mm.” Then his tongue invaded Madison’s mouth.
Madison sighed. How great is this? I’ve found two lovers who can kiss in such an awesome manner. “Mmm…chocolate.”
Drake chuckled. “You know I can’t resist this candy. Or pussy. But it’s not just you I taste.” He turned his intense blue-eyed stare on Marnie.
Madison rested her head on Drake’s shoulder. “She tastes good, doesn’t she?”
“You mind if I sample?” he asked.
“Uh, who are you asking?” Confusion etched Marnie’s features.
“Damn.” A look of disappointment crossed Drake’s face.
“What, babe?” Madison smoothed her palm over his blond brush cut.
“Is she only into women?” he pouted.
With a grin, she replied, “No,” at the same time Marnie did.
Drake’s eyes rolled back in his head. “Three-way?” He put his hands together as if he was praying and repeated the word ‘please’ over and over.
Marnie giggled. “Well, if you’re both going to beg…”
Drake let go of Madison and hugged Marnie, kissing her soundly on the lips. “You are gorgeous, and ever since Madison told me she had a thing for you, I’ve been praying you would be up for the two of us.”

Pigs in a Blanket

Recipe Theme of the Month: Nostalgia Tweet This
Hey there! I've been thinking a lot about recipes my mom used to make, that I loved as a kid but never seem to serve as an adult. This isn't quite what she made, but it has the same flavor. My mom's version resembled cabbage burritos- with the meat and veggies as the filling, the cabbage as the wrap, and the sauces over top. This casserole version is put together a lot more easily!

CABBAGE CASSEROLE
1 lb. ground pork sausage
½ c. diced onion
½  c. diced green pepper
½ c. diced carrot
4 c. chopped cabbage, 1/2 head
1 c. uncooked regular white rice
1 can (15 oz.) tomato sauce
1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste
2 c. water
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 bay leaf
1 t paprika
Brown pork in large skillet, stirring to break up meat. Add onion, green pepper, cabbage, carrot and white rice. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, water, and seasonings. Heat mixture to boiling, reduce heat, cover and simmer about 25 minutes or until rice is tender. Stir once or twice.

Sage Advice #2

Oh! I am so guilty of this!

See?

Things to work on. What are your writing foibles?

Here's a few of mine:

1.  Ellipses. I am addicted to them. Scatter the things like confetti, or ants at a picnic. Need to cure that habit.

2.  Typos- I have two major, consistent typing errors that recur. One is flipping the o and r in from. Yeah. At the end of every first draft, my first revision step is to do a search and find for "form". I still miss a few, as I'm sure my editor tell you.

3.  Double spacing after a sentence. It was drilled into me in Typing 101 back in high school, on an old model electric typewriter. Apparently, now that we're all computerized, that's not the way things are done. Hard habit to break, that is, but I'm getting there!

4. See that up there? Exclamation mark. Bastard snuck right in. They always do.

What are some of your writing foibles?

Top Five Writing Quotes

“Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.”
 John Jakes quotes

Of all the writing quotes there are, this one is my absolute favorite. First of all, I do love John Jakes and his resplendent Civil War saga, The North and The South. But that's not all. The themes and observations he imparts about human nature, about good, evil and indifference, about courage and despair, are timeless. And this quote for me, encompasses the means he used to get to that end.

“I put all my genius into my life; I put only my talent into my works.”
 Oscar Wilde      TWEET THIS

Cocky bastard, eh? To have that level of self-confidence is something we can all only wish for. Still, it amuses me when I'm having doubts about my role in the greater scheme of things, to remember I don't have to be a genius if I use my talent for writing.

“The difficulty of literature is not to write, but to write what you mean”
 Robert Louis Stevenson

Boy, how many times have I read back over what I've written and said wondered what I meant? Working on it, though. Putting the words together in the right way, to capture every nuance of the image in your head...I agree with him. It is a challenge.

“I love talking about nothing. It is the only thing I know anything about.”
 Oscar Wilde

Uh huh. It's a big club.

“Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go.”
 E. L. Doctorow

Perfect. Like having a bucket of legos and creating whatever you want. It starts as a house then evolves into a space ship, or a robot, or a whatsit.

“Write without pay until somebody offers to pay”
 Mark Twain quotes

*Sigh*
Wise man, Mark.

Lucky SEven: Taking on the Backlist: Keeping House

Here are the rules for the Lucky Seven Meme:
*Go to page 77 or 7 of a backlist WIP
*Go to line 7
*Copy down the next 7 lines (sentences or paragraphs) and post them exactly as they're written. No cheating.
*Tag 7 authors
*Let them know

I'm using my backlist- and this is Keeping House, the first of the Truth or Dare books.

Seven sentences from page 77.

“But…” the third brother tried to speak, but Donovan had listened to enough bullshit.
“But nothing. You all need to figure out that Mischa is an adult capable of making his own choices and seeking his own path in life. He has strength of character and intelligence. Quit trying to force him into a mold you’ve made for him, and stop trying to manipulate him into doing what you want him to when he has the balls to tell you to go to hell.” Breathing heavily, he came to a stop as he realized he’d been shouting at the thunderstruck brothers.
 The eldest snarled at him.

I'll tag seven other authors when I post the link...

Crawl in Bed With Brita Addams

Crawling Into Bed With Brita Addams

And a Good Book

Brita Addams
February 19, 2013

Important things first, are these sheets silk or cotton?
800 count Egyptian cotton, in a nice sage green.

What are you wearing?
The usual – an old t-shirt and flannel pajama pants. I have to be comfy and warm.

What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight?
I actually snack before bed, but a nice bowl of double strawberry ice cream and peach iced tea did the trick. I have water beside my bed always, though.

If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find?
*slaps your hands* As Rizzo said in Grease, "Keep your filthy paws off my" wooden "drawers." (artistic license taken. J)
Starting on the top, you can see how neat. The Kindle has a prominent place, then various sundries, and my water.
Below that, as you can see, I have three drawers. The top one has hand lotion, sleeping meds, a couple of books, one being Wanton Women by Anonymous, and an odd tie-back or two from the bedroom drapes. The second drawer, well… and the third, well-er…

Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night?
Neither. I am a pathetically neat sleeper. I do, however, steal the covers and am often the victim of hubby's tugs when I have left parts of him hanging in the breeze.

Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up?
I was going to ask you the same question. I have notoriously cold feet, but I do have a warm heart. J
What are we reading?
Hope you like research. Personally, I am researching my Revolutionary War-era romance, so I have tons of books on my Kindle. I'm working on a saga, which begins during the French and Indian War and will trace generations of the same family through the Civil War.
As for everyone else, I hope they are reading For Men Like Us, my Regency era gay romance.
It came out in September at Dreamspinner and I'm pleased to say that it has gotten terrific reviews.
Here's the blurb:
After Preston Meacham’s lover dies trying to lend him aid at Salamanca, hopelessness becomes his only way of life. Despite his best efforts at starting again, he has no pride left, which leads him to sell himself for a pittance at a molly house. The mindless sex affords him his only respite from the horrors he witnessed.

The Napoleonic War left Benedict Wilmot haunted by the acts he was forced to commit and the torture he endured at the hands of a superior, a man who used the threat of a gruesome death to force Ben to do his bidding. Even sleep gives Ben no reprieve, for he can’t escape the destruction he caused.

When their paths cross, Ben feels an overwhelming need to protect Preston from his dangerous profession. As he explains, “The streets are dangerous for men like us.”

About Brita
Born in Upstate New York, Brita Addams has made her home in the sultry south for many years. Brita's home is a happy place, where she lives with her real-life hero, her husband, and a fat cat named Stormee. All their children are grown.
She writes, for the most part, erotic historical romance, both het and m/m, which is an ideal fit, given her love of British and American history. Setting the tone for each historical is important. Research plays an indispensible part in the writing of any historical work, romance or otherwise. A great deal of reading and study goes into each work, to give the story the authenticity it deserves.
As a reader, Brita prefers historical works, romances and otherwise. She believes herself born in the wrong century, though she says she would find it difficult to live without air conditioning.
Brita and her husband love to travel, particularly cruises and long car trips. They completed a Civil War battlefield tour a couple of years ago, and have visited many places involved in the American Revolutionary War, with more to come in September of 2013. In May, 2013, they are going to England for two weeks, to visit the places Brita writes about in her books.
A bit of trivia – Brita pronounces her name, B-Rita, like the woman's name, and oddly, not like the famous water filter.

Corn Cakes

Recipe Theme of the Month: Nostalgia
Hey there! I've been thinking a lot about recipes my mom used to make, that I loved as a kid but never seem to serve as an adult. This is a simple pancake recipe that was famous in our house for Saturday morning breakfasts. Served with honey or maple syrup, these are a tasty treat.

Sweet Corn Cakes
Ingredients:
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 beaten eggs
1 can cream-style corn
2 cups milk
1/4 cup melted butter
Preparation:
Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Combine eggs, corn, milk and butter. Stir into dry ingredients, mixing lightly. Bake on lightly greased griddle or in lightly greased skillet until golden brown, turning once. Keep corn cakes warm in oven or warming drawer until all are cooked.
Serve hot with butter and maple syrup.

Can't beat these pancakes for comfort food with a half dozen slices of bacon, or a few sausage links.
Thanks for stopping by!

Sage Advice

Awesome advice. Only problem is, then the phone rings...or you know, you open up Face Book...otherwise known as Time Suck.

Finding your own voice is very difficult for a writer. Learning to say what you mean, to put words together so they make sense is challenging. Then, when you think you've done it...along comes someone with an opinion.

And they may say that what you said was dumb, or ill-expressed, or wrong.

It can be discouraging, that certainty some people have that you aren't doing things right.

Just remember, its your voice, your story, your call.

I have to remember this.
