Crawling Into Bed With Heath Johnson (from Speakeasy)
And a Good Book

Important things first, are these sheets silk or cotton?
Cotton—it keeps far warmer in the cold winter months here, and it stops me from rolling right out of the bed. You may laugh but it has happened before. Admittedly, that was under different circumstances…
What are you wearing?
Silk pajamas (another reason to not have silk sheets, too) with my initials embroidered over the breast. Art says they’re a bit ostentatious but they were a gift from my younger sister, Amelia, and they’re incredibly comfortable.
What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight?
I have a bit of a sweet tooth. If we’re lucky, I can coax Art into making us some PB&J sandwiches—they’re my very favorite snack when I’m a little hungry. But he’s not so fond of the chances of either peanut butter or jelly ending up on the sheets, so it might require a little convincing.
If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find?
Books, books, and more books. Some are mine; some are Art’s—oh, all right. They’re mostly mine. I like to have books close by in case I can’t sleep for some reason. There’s also some cotton wool that I stuff in my ears because Art snores awfully loud sometimes. Don’t tell him I said that!
Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night?
I kick them off and usually find myself waking up with my face pressed into Art’s shoulder, clinging to him for warmth. He runs so warm most of the time that I wouldn’t really need the blankets at all in the warmer months.
Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up?
You can certainly try but I shan’t apologize if you get a kick in return because I won’t much appreciate it.
What are we reading?
Speakeasy.

Excerpt:
Heath swallows, playing over an idea that had formed shakily in his head after he saw Frankie, since Art walked through that door and possibly longer without him being fully conscious of it. Maybe its time I was honest. Tell them that I dont want to marry Ginny or work with my father. Let the pieces fall where they may.
            “You would do that?
“If it meant being with you, I would do anything. Heath sits up and the sheets fall to pool around his waist. I know what I want, now. And its you and whatever a future with you brings.
