Margaritas For the 4th of July #celebrate #tequila #usa

Good morning friends and readers! *sips coffee*  It continues to be hot as all get out here, but that just means its perfect weather for planning our 4th of July bash.

Perhaps bash is a little overly er... I might be exaggerating just a wee bit. The truth is, it's just family. About a dozen people altogether.

We're picking up fireworks and plotting out what to throw on the grill, and of course, nothing says summer like a sweet, tangy margarita. I've got the Pinterest open in another browser tab and I'm trying to narrow down from hundreds of possibilities to about five that I can make up and taste test over the next few weeks. Have to choose just one. I'm going for flavor, but also want something with a celebratory appearance.

So far, it's looking like these are my best options:

Blueberry Margarita I happen to have a ton of frozen blueberries on hand already because they have been on sale here a lot, and I use them in a lot of baking. So this would be handy.

Blood Orange I love the color. I'm just not sure my local grocers can come through on the blood oranges. Am I prepared to drive an hour in search of blood oranges? Maybe.

Blue Margarita Only four ingredients. That means quick and easy to prepare. And a very pretty blue
in color.

Strawberry Mango  Look at the color on that one! It's amazingly red :) Plus, this one has the added benefit that I'm a huge fan of mango. Love it.

Then there's this...

Tequila Lime Crush It's not very patriotic in appearance, but it does look pretty intense and flavorful. Crushed pineapple? What says summer better?

Anyway, I'm hoping to narrow down my selection to just one by the 4th. Maybe two. Two margaritas isn't too many is it? I suppose I should have a pitcher of something else on hand for anyone who doesn't like tequila. SMH Philistines.

Right then. Off to make up the shopping list and put words on the page. You all have a great day.

Chances Are #FREE at Amazon May 2-4 #pulpfriction #gethooked

Hey everyone!

Just a heads up that the first book in my Pulp Friction 2013 serial- Chances Are- is free from today through the 4th! Pick up a copy today and get hooked!

BLURB:

His Grandma always said he'd come to no good. Chances Are, she's right.

Meet Aaron "Chance" Dumont:

"I'm Chance, this is my place. You want me; this is where you can find me."

The problem with that, of course, was that it wasn't my name. My name was actually Aaron Dumont.

I picked up the name Chance as a kid when my grandma kept telling me "Chances are you'll come to no good, just like your pa." She had said it so often, it just kind of stuck. I've been Chance ever since. When she passed away and left me the remains of her estate, I sold everything but a few special items then invested it all in a nest egg for a rainy day.

I figured that's what she'd intended it for anyway. She'd said as soon as I joined the police force back in the eighties. "Chances are you'll come to no good there. It's a dangerous job and you're an accident waiting to happen."

She was right too.

Excerpt:
"I have to go. Gerry leaves now. Sorry to leave you hanging." I had to get behind the bar. We do a steady business with the cops and the neighborhood people, and even though it was ten o'clock, I had four more hours until closing.

"Call me." His voice was husky and I fancied I heard just the slightest clink of that metal stud clicking against his teeth.
He wasn't the first visitor to my office, not the first face I'd stared at, trying to forget the one that was burned into my retinas, but he was different. I might have to get his name. Shit. I don't think I even gave him my name.

"I'm Chance, this is my place. You want me; this is where you can find me." I won't call. Been there, done that. Got the emotionally stunted psyche to prove it. I shoved him out the door ahead of me and let it close on our little interlude with a sensation akin to gratitude.
The problem with that, of course, was that it wasn't my name. My name was actually Aaron Dumont.

She was right too. That nest egg came in handy after the not-so-accidental shooting that ended my career. After my injuries healed and the physical therapy was done, I loafed around doing nothing for a bit, sinking into depression and dying slowly inside of sheer boredom. Then I found the bar, and Chances Are was born. I don't know if the name was a tribute to the woman who loved and understood me or a fuck you to the one who ruled my childhood with an iron fist. Since they're the same ruthless, gently bred Southern lady, I don't spend a lot of time dwelling on the motivation behind the name.

Every night found me here, polishing glasses, pouring drinks, and soaking up the world. I got to talk shop with local law enforcement without being responsible for the paperwork. The neighborhood itself was eclectic and I got plenty of customers in on any given night who were prone to chat and flirt and sometimes, like the rookie, even a little more.

He was still there, watching me when he thought I wasn't looking, taking the ribbing his buddies were dishing out with a flush and a faint smile. I was impressed. Rory Gaines had backbone. I liked that. It kind of made me want to test his limits, crush his spirit, just to see if he'd let me, but I knew that was the bitterness of lost love, and I'd never actually do it. I don't think.

As I polished the shot glasses, I was giving serious thought to actually going back to my office and digging that business card he'd given me out of the trash can. When the front door burst open and smashed into the wall with a sound so akin to gunfire that several of the off duty cops in the room dropped to one knee and reached for weapons they weren't supposed to be carrying in my establishment, I forgot about everything else.

Fabulous New Review! 5 Stars for Fifty-Fifty Chances Are!

Wow! A fabulous 5 star review of Fifty-Fifty Chances Are!

"It’s hard for me to believe that Fifty Fifty Chances Are is only 34 pages in length. It has the breadth and scope of a larger book. So does the series. Really, the author’s work here is immaculate. Pick it up but start at the beginning and work your way through. "

WIP Wednesday: What's Chance Up to Now?

Still working on that fifth Chances Are story, so today you're just getting a little tiny tease of what's coming. This is a continuation of the scene I shared last week, with Chance and Cannon in the bar.

Chance in Hell
copyright August 2013 @Lee Brazil
It was a simple sheet of hole-punched notebook paper; the kind every student uses in a three ring binder. Using a couple of pencils from a coffee mug of writing utensils on the desk, I smoothed it out, looking it over carefully. The short message was written in thick black lines, block printed with strange flat edges on the bottom of each letter where it looked as though the ink had bled a bit. Most likely written with a marker rather than a pen.
Deuteronomy 32:35
Vengeance is mine, and recompense, for the time when their foot shall slip; for the day of their calamity is at hand, and their doom comes swiftly.’

I whistled softly. "That's pretty definitive. You say it was on your desk?"

Believe in Second Chances?

Second Chances Are

Chances Are book 2

The ghost of his past keeps Aaron “Chance” Dumont from settling into his new relationship with Rory. Tired of coming in second place to a memory, Rory fights back in his own way with tragic results. Realizing that second chances in life are rare, Chance finally makes a decision…and then the past walks through his door.

EXCERPT

Into my bar, at ten o'clock on a Saturday night strolled a man I'd thought I never would see again. I sat up a little straighter and my hand clenched so tight around my snifter of whiskey I was surprised it wasn't immediately crushed. There was no mistaking the miserable bastard.

If I hadn't recognized the fine black hair, straight and newly streaked with silver at the temples, if the blue eyes hadn't pierced my soul to the quick in a brutal assault, if the tall lanky figure weren't so very familiar, I'd still have known him.

Because my body recognized him. My heart raced, my blood heated, and the dick that had been completely un-swayed by Rory's charm the other day hammered against the zip of my jeans in immediate demand.
His gaze swept the room and a silent hush seemed to follow in its wake. Blue eyes settled on me, and he strode confidently forward. I remembered every tiny detail of his face: thin aquiline nose, narrow lips, tight jaw. When his eyes met mine they heated and sparkled and I fought to stay still, to stay on my stool. Leaping up and running forward to embrace my ex wasn't going to happen.

He stopped at Rory's stool next to me, and I shouldn't have been surprised when his hand fell on my thigh. I was proud of the fact that I neither jumped nor flinched when a thin fingered hand squeezed my thigh through my jeans. I didn't have the strength to push him away—never that, but I didn't react the way he thought I would, and I marked that up as a point in favor of my having learned at least some of the harsh lessons this guy had taught me.

The heat of his touch disturbed me; the equilibrium his very appearance had thrown off balance spun out of control. I heaved a deep, relieved breath when he broke eye contact with me and turned to Gerry. "I'll take a scotch on the rocks."

Gerry nodded, and I could see the curiosity in his youthful face, but I didn't have the wherewithal to explain. Instead I gathered enough of my inner reserves to speak. "Cannon. Long time."

He sat on the stool and smiled at me. "I’m divorced. And out. Told my family. Hazel was justifiably upset, hence the divorce. Craig didn't give a shit; he still hates me and probably always will. Seth... Seth wants to meet you."

That last bit caught me taking a steadying sip from my glass and ended with me choking on it. "What?"

He ignored my question while I took another fortifying drink. "Told my bosses. Turns out as long as I'm not flirting with the patients on the operating table, they don't care. Or can't legally care, which amounts to the same thing in the long run."

"Cannon..." What the fuck?

"Those were the things you asked of me, Aaron. You said when I was single and out to come and find you. Here I am." He stared at me expectantly.

February Projects

February Projects

Hi everyone!
Come on in and sit a spell. *sips coffee* Ahhh. That's good stuff. I’m working my fingers to the bone this month... well, not really. I'm working at adding another book to my paperback collection: Going to skip over Taking the Dare for now until I can do the whole series...Breathless Press currently holds a paper rights contract on the first three books and I need to explore the options there. The next paperback release will be Mark's Opening Gambit, not sure exactly when as it needs to be re-edited, formatted and cover art designed. Definitely by the end of the month though.

I'm working on a series of regency romances with a friend, we're planning six titles, three M/M, which I'll write, and three mmf, which she will write. We're calling it Behind Closed Doors, The Brigstock Family. The first book, Randall's Romance is nearly complete and I'm really enjoying revisiting the regency setting. (I wrote Less Than All last year and it was my first venture into the realm of Regency England) This is all first draft work, so of course you won't be seeing it until maybe June.

Speaking of regencies, I am adding a new title to my Rake series this month. This one is called Tailored for You, and will feature Gavin's visit to his tailor. *fans face* As you know, these naughty little stories are just for fun pieces. Quick and sexy, Heated Exchanges can take place anywhere, any time, between any characters.

And Story Orgy is working on a new anthology, this one based on prompts provided by readers in the form of song titles form the 50's. I’m basing my story around the song Dream Lover by Bobby Derrin. It's turning out to be a very different sort of story, more than a little surreal. So far I've had call to draw on Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, the poetry of Robert Frost, Homer, and L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz. Should be fun. I'm enjoying writing it, anyway. Deadline is April first, and I need to add another 3K this month to bring it to the required 10K. Should definitely be doable.

Last but not least- I'll be outlining the third Chances Are story this month. I’m not going to tell you many details, because, well...the second story isn't out yet and I don't want to spoil it for you. Suffice it to say that it isn't following the outline I planned when I plotted out the five story romance ARC. *chuckles* That's okay. I have ideas for a bit of a fling for one of the other characters... But that will have to wait till later.

I’m limiting myself to three projects a month. The plan is to write 35K a month, 3 stories, one of 20K, one 10K, one 5K. Let's see how that goes for 2013, shall we?

Thanks for stopping by!

February Releases Update

February Releases

Hi everyone!

Just a note about what February is bringing. I have three releases scheduled for this month. That sounds like a lot, but when I tell you two of them are 5K short stories, and the other is a collection of short stories I wrote over the course of 2012, you'll realize that I am not being over worked. LOL

First, I've had a short story that I wrote back in 2011 that I love. Its hard to find a publisher who accepts shorts though, outside of anthologies, and believe it or not, a lot of people don't buy anthologies! So, this story is finally seeing the light of day via Lime Time Press, my little self publishing venture. It's a Valentine story about a man with a secret, and the man who hopes to love him. While it's a romantic story, it doesn't end with a wedding or an avowal of love. It's a beginning with the promise of a future HEA. Look for Under the Pier at e-book dealers on Feb. 8th.

Second, my anthology of Malcolm and Jacob short stories is releasing form Breathless Press on February 15. This collection covers a year of holidays as Malcolm Jenner and Jacob Renault, heroes of Loving Jacob, try to put their relationship back together again. It is currently available for pre-order at BREATHLESS PRESS and will release elsewhere on Feb. 15.

Last, you may not know this, but I write stories that are more erotic, less romantic, quick erotic sex-capades without the HEA, under the name L.B.. The first series of those, A Rake in London, is releasing over the next few months Book #2, A Debt of Honor: Collected will release at the end of February. They are a lot of fun to write, and the Regency is a lovely era to visit. If HEA isn't a requirement for you, I hope you give them a try!

Thanks for stopping by!
