The Magicians, What Can You Get for 99¢, Cover Art on Deck #caffeinateme #writestuff

Good morning! *sips coffee* Posting quick today because I have a lot of posts to get squared away for the upcoming release of Spark to the Heart. Speaking of: COVER ART! A gorgeous cover has hit my inbox and I am so excited to share it with you all. There's a giveaway in the offing, and so much more...

ETA: Flash sale at Dreamspinner Press today! Flash sale of 12 eBooks for 99 cents each and 30% off featured authors' backlist! Titles by Amy LaneAndrew GreyAriel TachnaMickie AshlingZ Allora AlloraZahra OwensAllison CassattaAnne BarwellJacob FloresShira AnthonyKZ Snow , Zoe Lynne - Fiction For LGBT Youth Dreamspinner Press

But first, I have to ask. Has anyone been watching The Magicians? At first I was iffy about this show, but now I'm hooked. And Netflix only has season 1. I understand season 2 is starting soon on cable, but I do not do cable. (Honestly, I can't believe anyone still does. Hundreds of dollars, hundreds of channels, and still nothing to watch. That's why we gave it up.) So, I'm filling my Amazon cart with Lev Grossman's books. Anyone read the books? I so hope the books are as good as the show.

Last time I did this, it was with a book that Amazon was doing a pilot on. I was majorly disappointed. *fingers crossed*

So... this caught my eye on the Facebook when I was supposed to be working the other day, and I had to grab it.

Ranch cook against restaurateur—who does it better?
Hayden McGrath has the formal training and knowhow to run one of the best farm-to-table restaurants in the city. This year he wants to prove his worth by entering the barbecue competition at the American Royal. It has nothing to do with a certain cowboy from the Flying P…
Amos Vasquez has been the ranch cook at the Flying P Retreat since it was an actual ranch. Now it’s a place tourists flock to so they can have a taste of his food. This year he is going to win the barbecue competition and nothing will stand in his way, not even a certain sexy redheaded restaurant owner who has caught his eye.
This will be the barbecue competition to beat all competitions at the American Royal.

I am a sucker for certain themes in romance, and cooking is one of them! You bet that landed in my cart and is near the top of the TBR right now. I have to finish Hidden Figures, then I"m on it.

Publishing Updates, Fortune Cookies, Top Chef, Grr! #caffeinateme #writestuff #mmromance

Good Morning! *sips coffee* Welcome. It's a whole new world out there folks, and I do not know what to make of it. We shall see how it all goes. Work wise, it's going fairly well. Havan Fellows and i have just finished edits on Spark to the Heart, book 4 in the Parkerburg series. We have a tentative release date planned for that, on February 13th, I think. Pending cover art and proofing, look for excerpts, buy links, cover reveals and a little give away celebration right here. Soon.

On the Story Orgy front, we've got a new project! Project Fortune Cookie is underway and I am off to a great start with a blurb and a few hundred words. I've got an iffy character name situation though, and am looking for suggestions! Look for more Fortune cookie updates and information over the next few months. Tentative completion date on that project June, with a publication goal of August.

Also, don't miss this! Crawl in Bed is Back! Check out  Crawling Into Bed With Rio Buchanan from Killer at Christmas by Kera Faire. More interviews to follow. I've got Kimi Saunders and Haley Walsh coming up in the next few weeks.

Enough work. So, this has been nagging at me for the last few days. Feel free not to read my pre-coffee ranting. Also, SPOILER ALERT! If you're not caught up on Top Chef read no further!

#TopChef, two weeks ago, Jamie Lynch had immunity. The judges made a huge issue about how awful his dish (Chicken satay made with peanut butter *shrug* pedestrian, but really, how bad can it be?) was, and how someone on his team was going home and it was his fault. SO he gave up his immunity- and he went home. Everyone acted so shocked, like it had never been heard of. BUT, I clearly recall at least two times when the judges indicated QUITE strongly that they felt the person with immunity should sacrifice it because their dish was the worst on the team. One was season 11 in New Orleans where Nick made corn silk birds' nests and everyone hated them. He had immunity so Stephanie went home, even though everyone loved her dish. It annoyed me then, how big a deal they made out of the fact that Nick didn't give up his immunity. The whole point of immunity is to protect a chef when they make a cooking gaffe. Take that away, and there are many chef's who wouldn't have made it to the finale.

There. I said it. *fills coffee cup* Back to regularly scheduled programming.

That's it folks, all the news that's fit to print. I'm off to put some words on the page and dinner on a plate. Or in a crockpot, for you know, dinner later.

Popcorn, formatting, where's the sun? #mmromance #writestuff #caffeinateme

Good morning all! *sips coffee* A little gloomy out this morning, but the sun has finally made an appearance. Which effort I greatly appreciate.
Last week I bought a box of popcorn. A LARGE box. Like twenty packets of microwave popcorn. You'd think we were opening a movie theater, that's how much popcorn is in our kitchen right now.
I didn't know why.
But as I sat here this morning, looking around the kitchen and trying to find distraction from formatting Taking the Dare for rerelease later this month, it hit me.
Popcorn is special food. (Yes, I am aware that it has been around forever.) Birthday cake special. Lasagne special.
Now, you have to remember, when I was a kid, #3 of 9, in the seventies, with a stay at home mom and an always at work dad, things weren't like they are now.
You couldn't just grab a packet and stick it in the microwave and be munching on buttery popcorn in minutes.
Nope. There was a special pan, and a crank that had to be turned constantly. And butter that had to be melted and drizzled exactly, so that all the popcorn was buttery, salty, but not soggy or mouth puckering.
The whole process was a stove top nightmare that took way longer than anyone wanted to wait. Because you see, we couldn't pause what we were watching. Or restart it. Or anything. And it wasn't on video of any kind, or available to rent, or stream. And it wasn't going to be on television again any time soon either. Movies played once or twice a year, if that. Some of them were annuals. You like Miracle on 34th Street? Great. You can watch it again next Christmas!
If you went to make popcorn, you were missing part of that movie. And sometimes, that movie was all that had gotten you through a crappy week.
So popcorn was special.
And I've been having a crappy time, so I stocked up on something special to make it better.
Popcorn.
MMM. Even the smell makes me smile.

Have a great day everyone! I'll be off formatting, and maybe enjoying a little treat if I get my work done today.

Reading Round Up, Heat Wave, Back to Work #caffeinateme #writestuff

Good morning friends and readers! *sips coffee* We had a few days of heat relief, but the temperatures are soaring again. Expect it will be unbearably hot again before we know it.

The fourth was fantastic though. It was cool, a little cloudy, but not so much so that the fireworks were ruined. We set ours off over the pond and a good time was had by all.

It was  a BBQ day, so that made cooking easy, which left me with time to do some reading. I picked up The Fault in Our Stars, which had been highly recommended and received rave reviews.

I'm just going to come right out and say it.

I was underwhelmed.

It was okay, but not my idea of phenomenal. Does that ever happen to you? You pick up a book that you've heard great things about, and it's just such a let down?

On the other hand, I also read a quick little fairy tale by Neil Gaiman called The Sleeper and the Spindle. Now that was quite good, and with awesome artwork as well. Next in the TBR is Lab Girl. Amazon kept recommending it, so I finally caved and bought it. Will see if it's any good.

ETA Meanwhile internet here is iffy due to inclement weather - please keep your fingers crossed for no flooding- so I'm going to rush this little post out there and get to work.

Y'all have a great day!

Flamingos, Weird, Cooling Off #caffeinateme #writestuff

*sips coffee* Good morning all. I know. It's not morning anymore, but seriously, I started this hours ago and its my first genuinely scheduled "task" of the day. It says right there on my calendar, #1. Write blog post. Just things kept getting in the way. Like for instance... I got the post all set up and blogger wouldn't let me type in the box. Weird, right? Had to refresh. Then all the stuff already in the box vanished, and boom. That required more coffee.

This past week I saw an Amazon Prime tv uh... I forgot the word for it. Not premiere, or preview, though both of those words sort of fit. Anyway, Amazon does this thing where you vote on new shows. They actually have some good shows that have begun this way- Transparent for one.

Anyway, this show was called The Interestings. The episode was intriguing, and frustrating. So I bought the book it was based on. The book was intriguing and frustrating. It was not chronological, and it skipped POV's and well, the characters were anything BUT interesting and nothing really happened in the book. Nevertheless, it was hard to put down. I"m not sure I can actually recommend it or not though.

Meanwhile, the weather has calmed. It's due to remain in the 80's for a bit now, and that's good for my garden and for me. Rain has actually been scarce. Perhaps this is why.

Flamingos. Instead of rain this year we're getting birds lol

Okay- that's me done for the day. I need to get back to work on my stories. :)
Y'all have a good one.

Voices in Your Head? Binging, Bread Bags #writestuff #caffeinateme #amwriting

Good Morning. *sips coffee* Coffee is the secret to adulting in our house too.  Coffee is the best part of adulting. So the heat wave is predicted to break and temperatures drop back into the 80's next week. I'm hoping that I survive that long without melting. My tomatoes are thriving, but the zucchini is looking a little wilted.

*fingers crossed*

I've been huddling inside in the air conditioning trying not to go out any more than I have too.

Which is leaving me with plenty of time to indulge in one of my favorite summertime activities, binge watching television shows. Right now, I'm up to about season 4 of the new Dr. Who. I powered through Grimm, and am awaiting season 6 with impatience. Up next I have season 3 of Marvel Agents of Shield, and I am taking recommendations for after that.

If you're a binge watcher, I highly recommend Justified and Suits, both of which are available via Amazon Prime television. I find myself on Amazon Prime as Netflix seems a bit more flaky in terms of streaming lately.

BUT... I'm also writing. Not as fast as I'd like, but at least the story is there. That's way better than last month. Still working on Parkerburg 4 with Havan Fellows. I'm not telling who the mc's are going to be, but its a fun story so far.

Then I saw this. This is about as much truth as the internet holds...
I'm a 1. Someone in my household is a 3. I know, because every time I pick up the loaf of bread, half the bread falls out and lands in the dog's water bowl.

Anyway, that gave me a chuckle, so I though I'd pass it on.

A+, Dilemma, Triberr #writestuff #caffeinateme

Good morning friends! Happy Humpday! *sips coffee* High today is predicted to be 100. That's right. It's going to be an A+ scorcher of a day. Fortunately, I have no errands to run and no cause to be outside.

This leaves me plenty of time to stare at the computer screen and contemplate a couple of dilemmas that arose yesterday. I'm only going to tell you about one though. The other one is trivial, and if I contemplate it too long I'll probably figure out that mostly its bothering me because of my ego, lol.

Anyway, here goes. So, I belong to a few Triberr tribes, writers and book bloggers, mostly erotic and romance. The purpose of Triberr is to support one another by sharing posts that may be of interest to your readers via Twitter and/or Facebook. I'm usually the sort who just goes down the stream and clicks all the green buttons to share it all, because I know what a voracious appetite readers have for the written word.

But yesterday I had to pause.

One blogger's post raised a dilemma for me. It wasn't that the post had explicit content, or that I disapproved of it at all. It was just that it was a post for a children's book.  It felt sort of wrong for me to be out there promoting a children's book as an author of erotic romance.

So I skipped that post, and it's still sitting there in  my stream. I know it will be there again tomorrow morning, and the next, until or unless I finally clear it away. I want to share it, because the particular blogger is very good about sharing all my posts, but ...

What do you think?

Would you find it creepy or jarring to find a post in my news feed about a children's book?

Surprise, Advice, Storm #writestuff #caffeinateme

Good morning friends! *sips coffee* This is one of those days, where even though I wake up on time, I feel like I'm going to be playing catch up and chasing my own tail all day. The cat thought 4 am was a good time for breakfast. After an hour of playing dead, I decided she was not going to give up, so I got up and fed her. I've been drinking coffee ever since trying to wake up for real.

Want to hear a secret? Something you don't know about me? Yesterday I was cleaning off my desk because I couldn't see surface of course, when my glance fell on a framed document. It made me smile, which is exactly why I framed it back in October of 2010. I'm not the sentimental sort about things as a rule. I throw most things away- birthday cards, christmas cards, etc. I collect memories, not debris. But this...

Back when I first got my first check (because I hadn't set up direct deposit yet) from Amazon, I photocopied  it and framed it.It's only for $12, but hey, that $12 enabled me to take the SO out for coffee and pie.  The photo sits on my desk to remind  me I'm a writer, I make money doing this thing that I love, and that life is a wonderful thing. Even when the words don't come out right, and the pages stay white for days on end- I have that memory to help me continue to persevere, to keep at it.

Which is where I'm heading off to now. Back to work on Parkerburg #4. I'll leave you with this... a little advice for the day.

Also this...

Need a Superhero? Try A Man of Unusual Talent an M/M Superhero Romance

Collin Crane is a man of unusual talent. Really unusual. Too weird for the Guinness Book unusual. On the fifty-year plan to a doctoral degree in physics, and a quiet quest to understand his own oddities, Collin clings to obscurity. This superhero has learned the hard way that it's better to be safe than sorry.

If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. This was such a fun story. Awesome way to use marshmellos. LOL I loved it so much. A fun read when you need a laugh or life gets too serious.
I highly recommend this book

Lost Glasses, Universal Mysteries, Rocking On #writestuff #caffeinateme

Good morning friends! *sips coffee* That's as far as I got this morning. It is now 6pm and I am finally back to working on the blog post for the day.

On the plus side? It's a much nicer, more mellow day than in recent weeks. Nice cool breeze, only about 85, and yeah. Mellow.

I'm still soaking in the atmosphere of that new Mudcrutch album. Loving it, I tell you. Tom Petty and company are the best.

Among othe rthings, I spent half an hour looking for my glasses this morning. Totally not my fault, either because as it turned out, the cat had borrowed them during the night.

Then this happened.

Incredible. We have the ability to locate a single molecule in the depths of the galaxy, and yet I cannot find my shoes ten minutes after taking them off. #mysteriesoftheuniverse

All sorts of fabulous archeological stories, too. Tons of inspiration for my Ocean Archeologist story- wonder where I put that WIP? Tiem to drag it to the for and get some work done on it.

Not tonight though.

Tonight... I write the prompt. That's right. Story Orgy prompt time is here again. Look for a snippet of m/m romance next Monday to go with the prompt "Every morning..."

Happiness, Siesta, Mudcrutch! #caffeinateme #writestuff

Good morning! *sips coffee* It continues to be unrelentingly hot out, and I have come to understand the concept of a siesta as never before. The heat saps your energy like nothing else. Therefore, I've been trying to work early in the morning. My plans today were foiled by an internet outage. Isn't that the way things go? As a result of the outage, I wound up losing consciousness instead of working, and I don't think it counts as a siesta if you fall asleep before 9 and wake up before noon.

So I'm totally stoked today because I just discovered that Tom Petty has a new album out. Mudcrutch 2 released on May 20th and I am jubilant. I can be that, right? I know it's usually used for things like British Queen's extravaganza's - does anyone else remember the jubilee? But anyway... New Tom Petty music is a reason to celebrate at our house. Break out the crystal, buy a new bottle of honey jack and climb up on the roof. Crank the sound up loud and watch the stars for a few hours.

Not that I'm waiting for darkness to fall to listen to this baby. No way.

In fact... I'm going to have to cut this post short so I can just kind of dive into the music. Y'all understand I'm sure. See you later!

I'm Melting, Oops, Free from ARE, #amwriting #caffeinateme #writestuff

Good morning everyone! *sips coffee* I hate to sound like a broken record, but man! It's freaking hot already! Think cool thoughts... just think cool thoughts and all will be well.

Another day of temperatures in the 90's. My zucchini is loving it, at least. The tomatoes are thriving also, just the peppers appear to be ready to give up. Today is designated as a work day, but I think I'm going to stick to indoor work.

Speaking of work, I had a big oops. I have a few books that are supposed to be marked free at All Romance, and they apparently went back to 99¢. My mistake. I fixed the issue, and once again, you can get Cold Snap, Chances Are, The Aristocrat and His Servant, and Centurion free at All Romance, in addition to the super shorts, The Captain's Cabin and Nothing to Forgive.

While I was over there I couldn't help noticing a few more fabulous free reads, and I may have picked up a few to peruse in between work stints.

In case you're wondering, I got

  • My Gay Geek Crush - New to me author, but I LOVE the best friends to lovers story line.
  • Shirt - Ok, it's Amy Lane, and a Ryan and Scotty story. Picking this one up was a no-brainer.
  • Harlan's Ryde - I've read this one before, of course. It's written by my very best friend Havan Fellows and is a complete riot. Re-reading it is top on my list.
Unfortunately, I can't read anything until I get some words on the page, so I'd best get myself off to the WIP.

Y'all have a great day and stay cool :)

Margaritas For the 4th of July #celebrate #tequila #usa

Good morning friends and readers! *sips coffee*  It continues to be hot as all get out here, but that just means its perfect weather for planning our 4th of July bash.

Perhaps bash is a little overly er... I might be exaggerating just a wee bit. The truth is, it's just family. About a dozen people altogether.

We're picking up fireworks and plotting out what to throw on the grill, and of course, nothing says summer like a sweet, tangy margarita. I've got the Pinterest open in another browser tab and I'm trying to narrow down from hundreds of possibilities to about five that I can make up and taste test over the next few weeks. Have to choose just one. I'm going for flavor, but also want something with a celebratory appearance.

So far, it's looking like these are my best options:

Blueberry Margarita I happen to have a ton of frozen blueberries on hand already because they have been on sale here a lot, and I use them in a lot of baking. So this would be handy.

Blood Orange I love the color. I'm just not sure my local grocers can come through on the blood oranges. Am I prepared to drive an hour in search of blood oranges? Maybe.

Blue Margarita Only four ingredients. That means quick and easy to prepare. And a very pretty blue
in color.

Strawberry Mango  Look at the color on that one! It's amazingly red :) Plus, this one has the added benefit that I'm a huge fan of mango. Love it.

Then there's this...

Tequila Lime Crush It's not very patriotic in appearance, but it does look pretty intense and flavorful. Crushed pineapple? What says summer better?

Anyway, I'm hoping to narrow down my selection to just one by the 4th. Maybe two. Two margaritas isn't too many is it? I suppose I should have a pitcher of something else on hand for anyone who doesn't like tequila. SMH Philistines.

Right then. Off to make up the shopping list and put words on the page. You all have a great day.

Snow, Free Reads, Thank You, Copy Editors #writestuff #caffeinateme

Good morning friends and readers! *sips coffee* It's been a very busy long weekend for us here in the countryside. First of all, it got cold as f***, and then it snowed. Winter is later arriving, but has arrived with a determination to make itself felt. I am huddled in my kitchen office, heater blasting by my feet, bundled in warmies awaiting more snow. Prediction is up to three inches today. Three inches doesn’t sound intimidating, but it's cause to stay home, believe me.

This weekend we published a couple of short stories as free reads at All Romance and Smashwords. These were both previously published stories, and I really wanted to get them back out to readers as freebies in appreciation of all the support that you've given me over the years. The response has been overwhelming! Thank you so much to all of the readers who downloaded Nothing to Forgive and The Captain's Cabin this weekend. Both have earned Silver Best Seller Stars at All Romance ebooks.

Nothing to Forgive  is a best seller in three categories: Drama, Contemporary and Gay, and TheCaptain's Cabin also earned Silver Stars for Gay Erotica and Historical Erotica.
Altogether, both stories were downloaded over 150 times at ARe and nearly 400 times at Smashwords this weekend.

Thank you again!

Update to my work schedule, I have delayed publication of Urbex to hopefully the end of February or mid March. The words just aren't there for the story right now, and I just can't seem to force it. Meanwhile, I'm working on installment #7 of the A Rake in London series. This one follows The Fencing Master, wherein our heroes learned of some disturbing rumors being spread amongst the ton. Those rumors come to the fore in the next episode, entitled The Cut Direct. That's due out on February 1st. Then, I'm working on the second Linwood Academy book, due at the end of March. Look for a re-release of It's Simple, Simon at the end of February, and a special Valentine edition of The Park and Sunrise and Because You're You on February 1st.

Whoa. That's a lot of work to get done! Guess I'd better get cracking then, hm? I'd post a song for you, but I'm in musical mourning. I've been missing David Bowie and now Glenn Frye has passed as well. 2016 is starting out as a tough year for music.

But then there's this. In which we all realize that copy editors are people too.

Winner Announcement, Big Lies, Lavender Margarita #writestuff #caffeinateme

Good morning friends! *sips coffee* Well, I suppose that afternoon would be more accurate, but seriously, I slept in until ten so I am still functioning in "morning mode" for a few more hours. Received email from Will @PridePromotions this morning. Rafflecopter has designated the winner for The Hearts of Parkerburg Tour.

Congratulations go out to Veronica, who was chosen as the winner from over FIVE THOUSAND entries. Veronica will be receiving a fabulous Kindle Fire (No kidding, they really are fabulous! I've had one for several years now and I still love it.) and a selection of books from Havan and me. Congratulations again Veronica! Hope you love the Kindle Fire as much as I do.

Thank you again to Havan, Will & Paul, and all the bloggers who made this tour so wonderful. You all rock.

In other news, Havan and I finally finished the third Hearts of Parkerburg book, which is STILL in dire need of a name as we send it to the editor today. Perhaps she'll have a suggestion. LOL. That is still tentatively scheduled for release on February 14, if all goes according to plan. I'll be honest and admit that so far, it has not.

This week's urgent projects are the new Free Reads- well, they aren't all that new. The Captain's Cabin is a re-release of a short erotic piece of flash fiction that was published in an anthology by Breathless Press, and Nothing to Forgive was released by Breathless Press as a free read in honor of their birthday a few years ago. Those are both due to be released again on the 15th, Friday this week. Still working on the formatting and covers for those.

Also, FYI: my holiday compilation, Season's Greetings, will no longer be available after Friday, January 15th. This was a limited time offer in honor of the season. If you haven't yet gotten your copy, now's the time. You can pick it up at AmazonAll Romance, or Smashwords until Friday night.

In conclusion, I have discovered an abundance of new margaritas, which makes me happy. Except for this one. It kind of gave me a few moments of hesitation. The Lavender Margarita appears to be a lovely shade of purple, but I confess to having grave concerns. I like the scent of lavender, it reminds me of my grandmother. The flavor though? I'm pretty sure it would taste like you were eating flowers… or soap. Or drinking perfume… Then I read the recipe and it actually sounds delicious. So, the Lavender Margarita is on my list of cocktails to make this month.
