Morgan Hawke is happy with the status of his relationship with Dan Blake. After three years, though, Dan's ready to move their relationship to the next level.
Having seen his brothers find love and settle into family life, Dan Blake has realized he's ready for change. The only problem with that is that his lover prefers to maintain the status quo. Dan's up for the challenge of changing Morgan's mind. He's got plans, and he's used to working behind the scenes to get his way.
Morgan can't understand the changes he sees in Dan. They've come a long way from the office of the bar where they met, but he's not sure he's ready to move their relationship from the shadows to the front pages. Publicity is okay for Dan—he's got the weight of the Blakes behind him—but the Morgan isn't sure he's ready to let go of the past he's been clinging to.
Can Dan manipulate a happy ending for this script?

Excerpt
"Hey, baby." Dan's call from several feet away sent a dash of cold water in Morgan's face. He shivered.
"Hey." His weak, hollow voice surprised Morgan. Earlier, in their room, hearing Dan call him "baby" had excited him. Now, his stomach churned a bit, and the bitter, strong coffee Dan preferred sat like lead. At a loss, Morgan nervously shredded the buttery croissant on the table in front of him. He'd often wondered if Dan intentionally confused him, flipping from hot to cold, sweet to acid. But even for Dan this weekend's behavior was different.
At first he'd attributed Dan's strange attitude to his long absence, worried that Dan was through with him, maybe searching for a way to let him down easily. The weekend had put those doubts to rest, but now Dan's open attitude made him nervous.
To his shock, Dan leaned over to kiss his cheek lightly in greeting before sliding into the chair opposite him. He panicked over that while Dan sipped his coffee and grimaced. Morgan shook his head, trying to make sense of the other man's lack of discretion and became aware that Dan smiled at him peculiarly.
"What?" Something itched at the back of Morgan's mind. Inconceivable as it seemed, Dan was acting, putting on a show, playing a role for Morgan. Why?
"You're white. What's wrong, baby?"
Morgan floundered for an answer. Dan knew bloody fucking well what was wrong. He was playing with Morgan, toying with him for some unknown reason, and Morgan was off balance.
Fuck. The waiter approached to refill their cups, and surely he'd heard Dan’s endearment? The young man remained expressionless as he topped up their coffee, and then silently indicated Morgan's shredded breakfast. Morgan nodded. His mouth was dry, and he doubted he could swallow anything anyway. The waiter scooped up the plate and left without speaking.
"Dan, someone will to hear you." He managed in feeble protest. Sometimes being Dan Blake's lover was awesome. When he was the sole focus of those intent green eyes, the object of Dan's attention, it was fucking glorious. But then, Dan was also a selfish bastard and an unmitigated prick at times. Like that nasty comment the other day about Morgan running when Dan called. Truth be told, he probably did run when Dan called, but mostly because he wanted very much to see Dan.
"Do you care if they do?"
He glared at Dan, grateful for the shades that hid his emotions, the flare of anger. Dan didn't have to care. The Blakes had it all. Studio, money, acceptance in society, it was all theirs by virtue of being born Blakes. They didn't have to worry about ever working, courting the right kind of publicity, and appeasing the fickle public. They didn't have to worry about hurting someone they cared about. Above all else, the Blakes stood together, united against public scrutiny. They stared down adverse publicity, weathered scandal, together. He didn't have that.

Welcome DC Juris!

Lap of Luxury by DC Juris

Hi there, everyone! My name's DC Juris, and I'll be your guest blogger today. Don't worry—I don't bite. Unless you ask nicely! ::wink::

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a transgender guy who writes GLBTQ and heterosexual romance—typically fantasy and contemporary.

I'm one of those writers who has an Evil Day Job. I work at a small veterinary clinic, which is home to three doctors, two technicians, one front desk supervisor, three receptionists, myself, and two cats. We have almost four thousand clients—I know this because I just did a mass mailing to them. We've got clients from all walks of life: older people, young people, people with money and people with very little to their names.

The thing about a veterinary clinic is that people are usually there for a while; half an hour at the least. So, you overhear some interesting conversations. One I heard the other day was two clients discussing one of their neighbors, and how the man seems to live in excess. They talked about things like heated flooring in his garage, eating out all the time, having two cars when he's only one person, etc. They kept using the word "luxury"—used it about seven times, from what I recall. The thing I found funny was that none of what they mentioned was anything I'd consider luxury. Which got me thinking…what do I consider luxury?

To me, luxury is all about the small things. The reason for this, you see, is that growing up we never had the small things. When I was a child, I thought of luxuries in terms of things most other people took for granted. Hot running water in the bathroom, a flushing toilet, a stove with more than one working burner, an oven bigger than a toaster oven, heat, a roof that didn't leak. Those things seemed like far-flung fantasies.

I probably don't have to say that I got out of that situation as soon as I possibly could. I've spent the past ten or so years of my life working my rosy little buns off in order to make my life better—make it what I want—and to be financially sound. But I'll bet I still define luxury a little differently than most. Nowadays, luxury means cocoa anytime I want it, being able to afford fresh fruits and vegetables, being able to buy my husband whatever Christmas gifts he wants, being able to go to a grocery store and just buy what I want and not have to worry about the cost. Luxury is sirloin beef instead of the cheaper stuff. Luxury is Yoplait® Yogurt, Lipton® Tea, and Jiffy® Peanut Butter—all the brand names I loved at other people's houses when I was a kid.

But above all else, luxury means ease and comfort to my life for once. I don't go to bed hungry, or too hot or too cold. I don't go to bed afraid of what will happen in the night. And I know what you're thinking—these things are all just common things. Nothing fancy about them. But for me, it's luxury.

What about you? What luxuries do you have—or wish you had—in your life?

Leave a comment below, and one lucky winner will receive the luxury of this lovely DC Juris Cover Art desk 2012 calendar! I'll end the drawing tomorrow at 11:59 PM!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Flash Fiction Friday - You're Not Going to Believe Me

You're Not Going to Believe Me

"You're probably wondering why I'm sitting here."
"No." He loosened his tie and hung it on the rack.
"Naked."  My cheeks burned.
He ignored me.
This wasn't going to work.  I could tell.  I went with plan B. "I thought it would be sexy."
One neat black brow rose. He looked pointedly at my jeans and t-shirt on the bed.
"Ummm...there was a flood?"
Both brows lowered darkly.
"Fine. There's a spider on my shirt. I saw it when I got out of the shower."
"How many hours you been up there, waiting for me to kill that spider, Devon?"

Crawl in Bed With Rebecca Besser

Important things first, are these sheets silk or cotton?
LOL Cotton. Silk gets too hot and snags too easily when you're being...active. Teehee!

What are you wearing? Right now...?
A green T-shirt and black women's Joe Boxer shorts. ;)

What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight?
No snacks in bed....usually. Maybe cookies – if you're good I might even share!

If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find?
Considering my nightstand doesn't have a drawer, nothing! You'll have to search harder if you want to find something...interesting!

Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night?
Hmm...kinda half and half. I usually sleep on my stomach with the covers up to my neck, but stick one leg out and on top of the blankets so I don't get too warm. LOL

Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up?
Sure. I'm a snuggler!

What are we reading? (attach cover art, buy links & excerpt)
Earth's End edited by me! It's being released by Wicked East Press in Jan 2012! The book contains an array of Scifi Apocalyptic fiction.

I have a story in the book called, “The Olden Gears,” and it's about cyborg elderly people who go crazy and attack humanity with bloody violence.

Here's an excerpt from my story:

"He drove faster, but everywhere he looked there was more destruction.
With numb fingers, he reached over and turned on the radio to see if there was any news about what was going on; it took him a couple of minutes before he could find a radio station that was still on the air.
“...Overnight the world has been bombarded with attacks by the elderly. On every continent, in almost every country, they’ve taken lives at will, showing no mercy...”
Looking out around him, he tried to decide how he was going to make it home. Almost every street was blocked off by accidents, and everywhere he looked, someone was being slaughtered; his attention focused back on the radio as they continued.
“...Medical experts are saying the cause of the outbreak and behavior in their elderly patients is linked to the chemical compound used in the ‘lubrication’ of the ReGen ‘parts’ surgically implanted; the chemical was supposed to act as synthetic blood. Once it leaks into the real blood system, it targets certain parts of the brain and triggers uncontrollable, aggressive behavior...”" ~ The Olden Gears by Rebecca Besser - Earth's End
