Winner will be announced on this page.

Willow is a bit of a different type of story for me, but it explores a few things that I enjoy- such as sensory deprivation.

BLURB

Making decisions is sometimes difficult for Willow Shaw, but loving Cade Lawson comes easily. Too bad Cade regards him as too young to know his own mind.

EXCERPT
"Your dad asked me to keep an eye on you, Will. That's not something I take lightly." Look, not lust. The reminder was timely. When Matt Shaw had requested the favor, Cade had pictured himself and Will watching action movies, hanging out and having fun, much as they had when the kid was younger. Reality had been far different. Will snorted. "Right. I forgot. Well, I was seventeen then, and maybe he had some excuse, but I'm not a kid anymore. It's been eighteen months of fun with you peering over my shoulder, but I'm nineteen now and I don't need you looking out for me anymore."
Cade reached out a hand to clasp Will's slender shoulder, but the young man flinched back, almost hiding behind the door. He shook off his disappointment. Will just didn't like him anymore; he had to get over the loss of affection. "You're still young, Will, and since your Dad can't be here to guide you, he asked me to keep an eye on you because he loves you."
"Yeah. He fucking loves me so much, where is he?"
Sadly, Cade shook his head. He clenched his fist around his keys in frustration. This wasn't the first time they'd had this argument, and probably wouldn't be the last. "He's working a lot of extra hours to pay for your college fees."
"Tell me, Cade, when's the last time you spoke to my dad?"
Guilty heat burned his neck. He'd spoken to Matt Shaw just yesterday. The man called regularly. Cade considered him a good friend. "Will, your dad and I have been friends a long time. We speak frequently, and it's not always about you, huh?"
"Figures. You know when I spoke to him last? I can't remember. It's my nineteenth birthday, today, Cade. This is my party. You'd think he could call today, wouldn't you?"
Damn Matt Shaw. Helplessly, Cade shrugged. "Happy Birthday, Will. I'm sorry to disrupt your party, but I've had a long night and I have to work in the morning. I just need peace and quiet and sleep."
Footsteps in the gravel behind him drew Will's eye and he smirked knowingly at Cade. "Here's your boyfriend. Looks like your long night isn't over yet. Keep the noise down, you two. I have an exam in the morning and..." He leaned forward confidingly. "You may not realize this, but you're fucking loud when you fuck, dude."

  1. I value my sight most of all. The blurb and the pendant are both unique.

  2. I would say Speaking because I use my voice so much as a teacher.

  3. Well I'm not sure so we'll do a process of elimination. I've had head colds countless times so I've gone without smelling, didn't really bother me. I'm deaf in one ear and hard of hearing in the other but I have learned to adapt. Tasting I might miss but then again it would make a diet a whole lot easier!! That leaves sight and touch. I'm not sure I could live without either of those so not sure which is important. If I was blind I would miss all of the pretty things around me and i'm claustraphobic and afraid of the dark. So I couldn't handle being blind. I am a touchy person, always needing human contact at least 4 times a day (mind out of the gutters..lol I like to hug and snuggle) so I couldn't handle not being able to touch and feel. So I guess I have two answers for you Mr. Lee, sorry. Sight and touch I could not live without.
That pendant is gorgeous, it reminds me of the willow tree in my grandma's backyard when I was a kid. I loved the feel of the leaves (see? touch)
I've been waiting to read Willow. I love all of your books.

  4. I'd definitly have to say my sense of sight is what I value most. To see the wonder the world has to offer could not be replaced by any other sense. Also I would be lost if I couldn't read or see pictures that inspire my imagination.

  5. I think I'll have to say touch. The idea of never feeling a snowflake on my cheek or a cat's fur or the simple warmth of my partner's hand in mine is not something I think I could handle. I could compensate for the loss of any of the others, but touch is what I wouldn't want to live without.

And I love that pendant. And you. :)

  6. Definitely value my sight the most. I can't imagine not being able to read. Love the cover for Willow.

  7. I value my sight the most, maybe because it's slowly failing me. I don't know what I'll do when it fails and I can't read anymore.

  8. If I had to pick one to keep, it would be hearing. When I close my eyes right now I hear a favorite song playing, the fountain behind me, my husband rattling around in the kitchen. There's rain outside the window. Someone just laughed in the distance... I think without sound I'd feel truly alone.

  9. Lovely! Throwing me hat in the ring, as it were, once again!

  10. I'd definitely want to keep sight, although hearing is a very close second! Taste, smell and voice are all fairly expendable. But it'd be hard to be an editor without my vision.

  11. This is close between sight and touch. I don't know what would happen if I lost the ability to feel, but that is not something that I think is likely. I would need sight because I studied art history in college and am working toward teaching this as a career. I would not be able to study art works without having the ability to see them.
Congrats on your up coming release!

  13. Definitely my sense of touch. If I lost any of the others, touch is the one I would instinctively use to make up for the deprivation. I would hate not being able to touch someone or feel being touched in return. Just thinking about it is making me shudder... Gorgeous pendant and intriguing excerpt!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Probably for me it would be sight. I can't imagine never seeing all the beauty around me. Not to mention my children! Thanks for the contest Lee!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I would have to go with sight too. I cannot even imagine how hard it would be to be without. Just wearing glasses, to me is bad and to be completely blind has got to be incredibly hard. As always I cannot wait to read this book :)

  16. Sound. Hearing.
There are so many great sounds in the world. The birds, the wind, the sound of the ocean waves, laughter, music, the animals and even the bugs the sound of rain on the window...
They even say sound has a color. Because I can see I don't really know what that means but if I were blind i'm sure I'd understand that saying too. And really see why sound is so important.

I can't imagine not being able to hear the world around me.
I love my sense of hearing.

  18. Actually, I value my sixth sense more than the other five. I've spent a lifetime learning to accept and understand the sensory input from it.

That's an absolutely gorgeous tree and I cannot help but want a chance at it, but I'll leave it for your readers.
    Congrats on the new release!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sense of self and your place in the world over all others!! ;)

If I have to chose one of the five senses I would have to go with my sense of sound/hearing. I process the bulk of my life through sound. I would be lost without music in my life and I am primarily an auditory learner.

Wonderful work as per usual Amara *hugs*

  21. Such a hard question for me! Music means so much in my life, but so many of my favorite memories revolve around food. Taste and smell are linked really closely, so I always count them together. I'm such a visual learner, and use my sight for so many things (always reading!). Touch is one I always forget about, but it gives so much information and joy. Sigh. I honestly don't know. Sorry!

  22. Definitely my sight. I do so many things that require sight reading, sewing, and needlepoint. I can't until Willow is out it sounds great :) Thanks

  23. I am not sure which I value the most, my hearing or my sight. I used to think that I would rather go blind than deaf, because I have always been a big music lover. I have always loved books too, but you can get audio and Braille books. But I think anymore, I would probably value my sight more.

  25. I'd say taste because I like to eat and couldn't imagine not tasting anything I eat.

  26. I choose sense of sight as most important as it allows me to see the beautiful things in the world; and for without it, one will not be able to appreciate or experience life through the other 4 senses.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think that would be sight as I am so dependant upon it. I think of colors, and stars, and the faces of people I love, all the things I love to look at and then put it up against the others and it comes out first every time. Only touch comes as close.

  28. I have 2 addictions...food and books. It would a lot harder to do without sight in many more ways than just reading so I guess I'll have to pick that.

  29. omg, that pendant is so pretty!
okay, my favorite sense is taste, because I love eating, trying to foods and just drowning in the joy of it but a close second is smell, because I also love perfumes, how it mixes with each person's natural scent, from the cloyingly sweet to the subtle natural scents, just awesome. :)

  30. Oh the book sounds wonderful and the pendent is so beautiful! I think I would miss my sight most of all because I love just looking at things, not to mention reading everything! I think if I had to choose any other one, it would be touch. I love the feel of things. Soft, furry, rough, smooth, bumpy, hard, it all comes to life when I touch it.

    moriamccain @ gmail.com

  31. I'd have to say touch. To be without any sense of touch would turn everything two-dimensional to me. There's also the functional side of things in my head telling me that without that sensory feedback, I wouldn't be able to function at all. Gone would be those vital bodily sensations to tell me I have to go to the bathroom or swallow or cough or have injured myself. That would be bad news! Of course, there's the more intimate side of things, too. I wouldn't be able to enjoy a pat on the back, a friendly hug, the caress of a lover. To lose all that would be horrific. So... touch. Definitely. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think my hearing.... Yep, hearing is very, very important to me, tho I can't really explain why without it becoming a huge essay. :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Sight. I was a composer, so to hear music, I can look at the music score. The other senses take in less information than sight, and I couldn't read or write without my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Such a tough question. I think I would say sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste in that order.

    ReplyDelete
  35. What an exquisite pendant.
Even though my eye site shows me its beauty, my fingertips would be able to trace it and embed it in my mind. So therefore to lose my sense of touch would mean losing everything. Besides if I lost hearing, sight, taste and smell, it would mean my sense of touch would be awesome.
Anyway what good is it to curl up with a sexy guy and not be able to touch him with your fingers, lips, tongue etc *wink*

  36. The pendant is beautiful. The choices are hard. I love to read, so sight is the one. But I also like touching people and things. The textures are stimulating to say the least, then taste.
    Enjoyed the blurb.

  37. Hi Lee,
I would have to say that I value my sight, though honestly, all are important. I treasure each view of my loved ones, their smiles, their every expression. The eyes tell a story and if I couldn't see them, I would be missing the jewels of my life.

Hugs to you and Amara. I simply love the jewelry!

  38. Hi Lee, Beautiful Necklace and the book sounds intriguing so fantastic contest. My sense of sight is the sense I value the most. There is so much to see and to experience in the world, but the sight of my children's faces and the joy found in the pages of a new book are things I would truly lament losing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Such a hard one...but I think I value sight most of all. There's nothing that would compare to not being able to see the things around you.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Sight, i could not even imgaine not seeing the kids grow up , if you didnt have your sense of smell or hearing you could still see them grow up so yup i wouldnt want to loose my sight.

    ReplyDelete
  41. If I ever lose my sight sign me up for braille immediately because I can't go without reading.

    ReplyDelete
  42. My hearing. I can't imagine what a lonely world it would be to not hear sound. I don't want to be alone in my head with only my own voice :) I've blog hopped around and made it here. The book looks really good and the necklace is beautiful. I just lost my pendant of a tree...what a nice way to replace it this would be!

  43. hmmm I think that I value my sense of touch most. If I lose my sight, then I can learn to read with my fingers. If I lose my hearing, I'll still be able to feel my children's laughter. and smell or taste. well I'd miss it but touch is most important. Lovely pendant Amara! :)

  44. Hi Lee.
Count me in, please. The pendant is beautiful.
I am looking forward to reading Willow.

I value my sense of sight the most. I love seeing the faces of my beautiful grandchild and all the wonders around me. And I love to read. So, for me, it's definately sight.

  48. Tough question but i'd probably say sight. Not being able to read (i know there is braille), see my lovely and funny furbabies and all the beautiful things that surround us. Where i live they are making hay bales and there are amazing patterns, shapes and colours up and down the hills. Every time i drive to work in the morning i slow down and sigh as i take in the view :)

  49. Congrats on Willow, and I definitely want it....*S*
My eye sight, as my hearing has been slowly going due to any injury as a child. Being able to see people as they speak helps me to understand what they are saying.
I also bead and do wire work, but Amara Devonte's work is divine!
Thank you for the great excerpt, and I can't wait to read Willow.

  52. wow ok your book sounds amazing, and the pendant is beautiful, but i must say i took your question seriously i would have to say touching i would dislike losing my sense of touching the most my vision is already going and i am 26 but hearing, tasting, smelling, and sight i wouldn't miss any of them very much but touching is the way we as humans communicate our feelings the way we express our words without saying anything at all i wouldn't know what i would do if i couldn't feel my loved ones around me... thank you faithann
